Injectables, Fillers, or Both?

It may be in the eye of the beholder, but beauty starts with the face. Your face is the focal point of what others see. Unfortunately, the years can deliver certain aesthetic issues which will affect facial beauty like horizontal lines across the forehead, crow’s feet about the eyes, sunken cheeks and overlapping folds around the mouth. The good news is you can fight against the natural consequences of age with minimally invasive cosmetic treatments.

The Waltzman Institute offers an extensive menu of non-surgical facial enhancement procedures. We offer customized anti-aging treatment plans to restore or protect your facial beauty. These plans include treatments ranging from Injectable Neuromodulators to Dermal Fillers. This selection of minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures are solutions for common aesthetic issues men and women wish to resolve.

A common question we hear from our patients is which treatments work best. Should they choose injectables like Botox or will Dermal Fillers be more suitable for their aesthetic concerns? The answer lies in what the patient needs and wants.

Dynamic Wrinkles

Dynamic means movement. Dynamic wrinkles result from the repetitive movement of facial muscles and are also known as expression lines. When we express emotion with a smile or a frown, the upper facial muscles move. When these muscles contract, facial lines become evident. These dynamic wrinkles typically vanish when the face relaxes when we are young.

But with age, our body loses vital components for skin support like collagen and Hyaluronic acid. Then, oft-used muscles resume their contracted shape below the skin surface, creating issues like crow’s feet and brow furrows.

Fortunately, women and men can enhance their facial aesthetic by eliminating or softening dynamic wrinkles with quick and easy injectable solutions.

Botox

The most popular injectable treatment for dynamic wrinkles is Botox. This solution is injected into the muscles around the eyes or on the forehead to resolve muscle contractions. The result is a remarkable decrease in the appearance of dynamic wrinkles and fine lines.

Patients who receive these injections look relaxed and refreshed, less angry with a youthful appearance.  Many of our patients return for treatments two or three times a year to maintain the improvement in their facial appearance and the confidence in their looks.

They find these injections do better in limiting expression lines etched in their forehead and brow than their most expensive anti-aging creams. They prove to be a remarkable solution by preventing muscle activity and producing a more even, smooth skin surface.

Static Wrinkles

Static means constant or still. Static wrinkles are those of a constant feature, regardless of muscle relaxation. These wrinkles and lines are present always because the skin has lost its elasticity. Also, when dynamic wrinkles no longer disappear, they become static. Static wrinkles also develop on the lower area of the face, around the chin, mouth, and nose.

Dermal Fillers are proven solutions for treating static wrinkles on the mid and lower face. These results can be achieved immediately and last for several months.

Dermal Fillers

There are three main types of dermal fillers. They include:

  • Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
  • Calcium Hydroxyapatite
  • Poly-L-lactic Acid
  • Autologous Fillers

These treatments can work in concert with neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport to shape, smooth and accentuate the facial features and return a youthful appearance. The goal is to enhance facial beauty while maintaining a natural, balanced version of yourself. Dr. Waltzman is respected for his ability to achieve outstanding outcomes with the use of these anti-aging products.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers include product lines from Juvederm and Restylane. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring element found in your body. This substance binds moisture to help the skin stay hydrated and plump.

As the active ingredient in fillers, hyaluronic acid fills in wrinkles and fine lines producing a smoothing effect. It can also create a subtle lifting for areas of the face which start to sag and can restore volume to areas of the face which have lost fullness. Results last anywhere from six months to a year, depending on injection site and the product used.

Calcium Hydroxyapatite is the active ingredient for our dermal filler Radiesse. There are immediate increases in volume and collagen production after injecting this filler. These products provide a natural rejuvenation because healthy collagen remains in the treatment area as the body metabolizes.

Poly-L-lactic Acid is the biodegradable element found in our dermal filler Sculptra. This product has been used for years in dissolvable implants and sutures. Sculptra creates localized volume by increasing collagen production like Radiesse. Sculptra is one of the longer lasting dermal fillers.

Autologous Fillers is a technique which uses grafted fat from other parts of the patient’s body. A gentle liposuction procedure harvests this fat for injection into the treatment area after a purification process. Natural fat is a versatile facial filler and is effective in providing facial rejuvenation by plumping the lips and improving facial contours.

Although some of the transplanted fat cells will reabsorb in the body, remaining fat will launch a blood supply and stay indefinitely. This treatment may prove to be a long-lasting option.
