Botox®/Dysport®/Jeuveau® in Long Beach

Botox®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau® are among the simplest, fastest, and most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments, acting to reduce facial lines and wrinkles without surgery. When we smile, frown, squint, or make any of the hundreds of facial expressions humans are capable of, tiny muscle contractions are subtly shifting the position of our facial skin. Over time, these muscle contractions and skin movements result in lines and creases, which grow deeper and more pronounced as we age. These movement-related wrinkles (also called “dynamic wrinkles”) often appear near the eyes, in between the eyebrows, and across the forehead.

Botox®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau® in Long Beach, and other injectable treatments reduce and soften these movement-related lines and wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that cause them to form. Known as neuromodulators, they act by interrupting signals from the nerves to the muscles. In cosmetic treatment, Botox®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau® are precisely applied with extremely fine needles to specific muscles, reducing only the facial movements that are causing wrinkles without otherwise affecting full facial expression.

Josh Waltzman, MD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Long Beach, CA. He knows which of the face’s 43 muscles to treat to eliminate the wrinkles that bother you and which of the neuromodulators, in what doses, will give you the best results.

Is Botox®, Dysport, or Jeuveau the Right Solution for Me?

If you are bothered by lines and wrinkles caused by regular facial movement but aren’t ready to consider cosmetic surgery, you’re likely an excellent candidate for Botox®, Dysport®, or Jeuveau® in Long Beach. These injectables are minimally invasive, so they carry very few risks for healthy people, and they are highly versatile.

They produce the best results when treating dynamic wrinkles, the lines and creases formed when you squint, smile, or make other facial expressions. They do not work on wrinkles that are present when your facial muscles are at rest, which are known as “static” wrinkles.

Botox®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau® are not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Ideal candidates for Botox®, Dysport®, or Jeuveau® include men and women seeking treatment for the following:

  • Glabellar frown lines (also called “11 lines”)
  • Crow’s feet
  • Forehead wrinkles
  • “Bunny lines” on the side of the nose
  • Platysmal bands on the neck
  • Drooping corners of the mouth
  • Drooping eyebrows
  • Chin dimpling

Many Long Beach patients choose to pair their Botox®, Dysport®, or Jeuveau® injections with dermal fillers. When performed together, they can create a fully rejuvenated appearance that can look completely natural.

Neuromodulators can also be an effective treatment for conditions other than dynamic wrinkles. They can stop excessive sweating on the palms of the hands, the soles of the feet, and under the arms. They can calm muscle spasms in the neck and eyes. And they can reduce migraines.

Before any treatment with Botox®, Dysport®, or Jeuveau® in Long Beach, Dr. Waltzman will consult with you to answer your questions and perform a detailed examination of your face. He will recommend a customized treatment plan to meet your cosmetic goals and explain any opportunities for more comprehensive improvements combining treatments.

The most common side effects are slight redness and mild swelling at the injection sites, but these temporary symptoms subside quickly. Patients can immediately resume most of their regular activities after treatment. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for the first day. This is to prevent the Botox®, Dysport®, or Jeuveau® from spreading to an unintended area.

It usually takes about a week for the full results to settle. Results from Dysport® typically show up a few days sooner than do results from Botox®.

Patients can expect their results to last for around 3 months on average.

The needles used for Botox® and, Dysport®, Jeuveau® injections are very fine, so most patients do not experience much discomfort. Many patients describe the sensation as similar to a pinprick or a bug bite. Topical anesthetics, or numbing sprays, can be used to ensure your injections are as comfortable as possible.

A liquid facelift is when dermal fillers and neuromodulators are used together to produce comprehensive facial rejuvenation. Together, these injectables can provide subtle lift to areas that are starting to droop, smooth away fine lines and wrinkles, and enhance facial contours for ideal definition.

While a liquid facelift cannot replace a traditional surgical facelift, it is an excellent option for patients who are seeking a non-invasive way to treat the major signs of age. However, a traditional facelift is a better option for patients with more advanced signs of age, like sagging skin and deep skin folds.
