How does a Liquid Facelift Work?
The liquid facelift procedure is a non-surgical facial enhancement that uses injectable treatments – neuromodulators and dermal fillers. As you age, you develop two main types of wrinkles, and the injections are chosen to target each variety of wrinkle type specifically.
Dynamic wrinkles are those that develop from contraction of certain facial muscles, such as the fine lines around the eyes when you smile. These lines are best prevented with neuromodulators, such as Botox® and Dysport, that work by stopping the contractions which cause the appearance of the wrinkles. The effect is smoother, younger looking skin. An added benefit is that the use of neuromodulators over time also slows the development of deeper wrinkles.
Static wrinkles are deeper lines that are caused by the loss of fullness in certain areas of the skin. This change occurs because of decreasing amounts of collagen and other compounds such as hyaluronic acid produced by the body with age. The subcutaneous fat just underneath the skin droops over time, creating lines and contours that emphasize the appearance of age. With natural aging, your skin will gradually forms deep lines that are present even without movement, such as those across the forehead or from nose to the corner of the mouth. During a liquid facelift, dermal fillers are used to replace lost tissue volume and fill in these lines. Different dermal fillers, such as hyaluronic acid or an autologous transplant, may be used to create a fuller and more youthful facial appearance.
The combined treatment of both types of wrinkles is what makes the liquid facelift so effective at erasing cosmetic signs of aging. By using neuromodulators and dermal fillers, we can tailor treatment to your natural facial contours, creating a substantial difference and beautiful enhancement. As many injectables contain lidocaine to numb the area, you can expect a comfortable procedure with little to no downtime.
There is some variation in how long the effects last. While the Botox® or Dysport patients may need additional injections after several months, the effects of dermal fillers can last up to a year or even permanently. Patients occasionally return for touch-ups to specific areas to maintain their youthful appearance.
