Want to open the eyes? Lift the brows!

One of the first parts of the face that show signs of aging is the eyes.

From fine lines and wrinkles radiating from the sides to a furrowed brow, the eyes show our age.

What many patients fail to realize, however, are the profound effects the forehead and brow have on their eyes’ appearance.

Here, Dr. Josh Waltzman of Waltzman Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery suggests some solutions for making the eyes appear more alert and discusses how a brow lift can be one of the most effective cosmetic treatments for fixing old-looking eyes.

Common Treatments for Droopy Eyes

For some patients, particularly those with early signs of aging, dermal fillers offer a fantastic opportunity to brighten up the eyes and restore youthful vitality to a tiring face.

Conversely, patients with droopy eyelids might want to focus on their eyelids with a blepharoplasty, which can remove excess skin from the eyelids and revitalize the face. Eyelid surgery can enhance the appearance of either the upper or lower eyelids.

For many patients, the considerations for treating their eyes stop there. But one of the most effective procedures is often left out of the conversation – the brow lift.

Brow Lift for Younger Eyes

When the entire forehead and brow loses its’ structural integrity and strength, the whole upper third of the face begins to sag. This is a natural process of the skin losing collagen and elastin, which gives young skin its snap and elasticity.

When this happens, we get wrinkles on the forehead, but the brow also begins to drop down over the eyes, creating a tired and worn-out appearance even after a great week of sleep.

The brow lift is an excellent cosmetic procedure for reversing this effect and restoring a youthful, smooth forehead and wide, bright, alert eyes.
